Van buyers will be able to receive 20% - up to £8000 - off the cost of a plug-in van, Transport Minister Norman Baker and Business Minister Mark Prisk announced today.

A forced marriage is a marriage in which one or both spouses do not (or, in the case of some vulnerable adults, cannot) consent to the marriage, but are coerced into it. The coercion can include physical, psychological, financial, sexual and emotional pressure.

The Home Office are seeking views on whether making forcing someone to marry should be a criminal offence or whether current arrangements provide adequate protection. We are also interested in views on what more could be done to prevent forced marriage from happening. There are clear arguments both for and against making forced marriage a criminal offence. HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has now started sending out tax calculations (on form P800) to show taxpayers if they have paid too little PAYE tax for 2010-11. The warning, which the MHRA says is "precautionary" comes after reports that the anti-psychotic drug Seroquel XL has been found within some Nurofen Plus packets. Three defective packs have been found in pharmacies in London, but the affected batches may have been distributed across the UK.

The blister packs of the two different drugs look different, and should be easily spotted. The Seroquel XL 50mg tablets are large and capsule shaped and can be identified by their gold and black packaging; Nurofen Plus tablets are smaller and have silver and black packaging.

The Parish Council would like to thank Guiness Northern Counties for their sponsorship of £55 towards the cost of the Parishes hanging baskets.

A 'demo' map showing 180,000 assets owned by public sector bodies has been published.

These include restaurants, pubs, an airport and even Swindon Town’s football stadium!

It is hoped that by publishing a national asset map billions of pounds of potential savings will be identified.

The repair cost are in the region of £2000, with costs from previous vandalism already amounting to £720.  The Parishes funds should be spent on providing new facilities for the community and not on repair costs though acts of vandalism.

The equipment has been immobilised for health and safety reasons, reducing the play equipment available for use.  The basket swing on the play area is to be fixed within the next 7-10 days following further vandalism.

The play area is very well utilised, so the Parish are hoping that someone may have witnessed this incident.

Telephone scammers claiming to represent the OFT

We are aware of consumers being contacted by people claiming to represent the OFT. Consumers are told that the OFT can reclaim bank or other charges for them, and that this service requires an upfront fee to be paid by money transfer. Some consumers have been asked to pay between £100 and £200.

The OFT is warning people not to pay money to bogus telephone callers claiming to be from the OFT. These callers have no connection with the OFT. The OFT do not ask people for money over the telephone.

If you receive a telephone call from the OFT asking for money, this is a scam and you should not pay.

The First

"Can I speak to the BT Account Holder" is generally how the first starts and although they are a competitor of BT they keep saying "BT" to instill in your mind that they are from BT.  They talk about saving you money when infact they're trying to move you to their service.

The way to test to tell if they are from BT is to ask them to tell you your account number (it's at the top of your phone bill) - they can't because they don't know it. Terminate the call.

The Second

This is more serious.

Again they claim to be a representative of BT.  He will tell you that he is about to disconnect you because of an unpaid bill and will demand a sum of money, probably about £30 or you will have to pay £118 to be re-connected.

He's not after your cash - he wants your credit card details.

If he thinks you're suspicious he will so offer to demonstrate that he was from BT by disconnecting your phone.  He will tell you to hang up and phoning someone - he would dis-connect my phone to prevent this call.

Your phone will be dead - no dialling tone, no engaged tone, nothing.

You hang up and then he calls you again.

The cutting off of the line is very simple, he stays on the line with the mute button on and you can't dial out - but he can hear you trying (This is because the person who initiates a call is the one to terminate it). When you stop trying he cuts off and immediately calls back.

Don't get caught by this scam!

Walking for Health Groups are being set up across the district and the first walk in Heath & Holmewood takes place on Tuesday 31st May 2011 at 5.30pm until 6.30pm (walks will be weekly thereafter). The meeting point is at St Albans Centre (Holmewood) and will take approximately 60 minutes and cover 1-2 miles. Refreshments will be available.

Decent Homes

Thanks to everyone who popped in to see us recently when we brought our Decent Homes roadshow to Heath and Holmewood.

Earlier this year Rykneld Homes was provisionally allocated £52m over four years to improve Council housing belonging to our partners at North East Derbyshire District Council. This is much needed investment as 59% of the housing stock is currently judged as non-decent.

The funding is dependant on us continuing to deliver an efficient service and each year we must agree ongoing funding with the Homes and Communities Agency. This allocation will see thousands of homes upgraded, made warmer and fitted with modern windows and doors in line with government's Decent Homes standard

Annual Tenant Survey

Thanks agains to everyone who filled in our Tenant Satisfaction Survey posted out with the March edition of Homing In. At Rykneld Homes we regularly ask our tenants and residents what they think about services we offer. We do this to make sure we meet your needs, find out what changes need to be made and develop new services.

Those that completed the survey were entered into a prize draw. We will be announcing the winners of the prize for £100 in shopping vouchers in the Summer edition of Homing In.

The parish council dedicated its war memorial in Holmewood on Sunday 24 October 2010 at 2pm with the addition of 62 names of the fallen from the two world wars to the memorial. The names had been extensively researched over a number of years by Mr A Allsop and the parish council's thanks are extended to him for his help.  Shirland Welfare Brass Band provided the music at the service and afterwards at  St Alban's Centre.  

2 representatives from the Mercian Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Keith Seddon (retired) BEM MBE were in attendance along with the regimental mascot Private Derby. The British Legion and PCSO Harrison, the Chair of North East Derbyshire District Council and her consort and County Councillor Chapman were also in attendance.

Rev Anette Love conducted the service and the names of the 62 fallen from both world wars were read out as a mark of respect by J Merrick, T Armstrong, C Grainger, J Jepson and I Turner. M Tye read out war memories. After the service a buffet was served at St Alban's Centre.

The day was well received by everyone who attended and there was in excess of 150 people in attendance.  

Derbyshire Village Games is a project supported by Sport England and NEDDC to have villagers across Derbyshire regularly taking part in sport and physical activity through clubs, inter village competitions, festivals, coaching and volunteering. In partnership with the parish council a 6 week block of family fun sessions has been arranged to engage all of the community.

Clearing Snow and Ice - New Guidance

The parish council gives an annual award to a member of the parish who has been involved in voluntary work in the local community. This person can be nominated by local people and organisations. Please send your nominations to the Clerk before 31 December 2010. The parish council will decide in January 2011 who is this year's recipient and the award will be presented at the council's annual meeting in May 2011.

The parish council is gauging initial interest around the parish of Heath & Holmewood into the setting up of a Holmewood and Heath Events Committee which would work independently from the parish council on projects in the parish.

Anyone who is interested, please contact the clerk to the council in the first instance, who will pass your details onto the relevant parish councillor.

The official opening of the new Searston Avenue play area took place on Saturday 24 April 2010, attracting over 300 people. The ribbon cutting ceremony was peformed by Sophie Hoyland the winner of the poster design competition. Parish councillors, Dennis Skinner MP, representatives from Viriodr and Derbyshire County Council were in attendance, along with the Derbyshire County Council Youth Service bus and fire engine. The weather was beautiful and a great day was had by all.

Parish councillors, along with friends and family gathered at St Alban's Centre, Holmewood to see the recipient of this year's annual award given to Mr Roy Holden.  The award was presented to Mr Holden at the annual parish meeting held at St Alban's Centre, Holmewood. Mr Holden was given a gift, certificate and cheque in honour of his work in the local community. The chair of the parish council Cllr Lee Stone gave a speech outlining Roy's achievements followed by a buffet.

The long awaited new Searston Avenue play area is to be officially opened on Saturday 24 April 2010. Entertainment starts from 11am through till 1pm. Sure Start games stalls will be there and hopefully a fire engine. Hot refreshments will also be available. The official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 11.30am where the local MP and councillors will be in attendance.

After a lot of hard work from the parish council along with NEDDC, funding has been gained for the regeneration of the Searston Avenue play area. An order for the playground equipment has now been placed with Proludic and work should commence mid February 2010. The Council would like to thank Laura Smedley, Jayne Turner, Chris Kirk, Alison Griffiths (NEDDC),Josie Davies (Rykneld Homes), Jill Langley (DCC) Tracey Webster (DCC), all members of the Searston Avenue play area committee and the Clerk Kay Steele for all of their hard work and team effort. Well done everyone!

Cllr P Williams laid a wreath on behalf of the parish council at the service held on Remembrance Sunday 8 November 2009 at the war memorial in Holmewood. Cllr Gail Slater and the clerk attended the Remembrance Day service on Wednesday 11 November 2009 at All Saint's Church Heath, where Cllr Slater laid the wreath on behalf of the parish council.

On Saturday 24 October 2009 Cllr Suzy Cornwell Ball whilst on a personal visit to the region took time to represent the parish council at Tyne Cot where the council had generously donated £100 towards the Derbyshire Stone Memorial erected in memory of all of the Sherwood Foresters who laid down their lives for their country. Cllr Cornwell Ball said "it was a moving ceremony that included two young children who gave a personal account of members of their family who they had never met, who laid down their lives for their country."

Cllr Cornwell Ball laid a wreath on behalf of the parish council to all those from the parish who had fought and died in the Great War 1914-1918. Their individual names were written on remember me crosses and laid.

Our parish suffers greatly from the effects of fly tipping and there appears to have been a general increase in the amount of litter over recent months. Mr Nev Haslam from District Council attended the November meeting to assist the parish council in mounting a litter campaign to encourage residents not to fly tip or drop litter. Several notices have been placed around the parish to try to encourage people to report offenders and to take their litter home. Hotspots appear to be the land adjacent to the Seartson Avenue play area, land at the bottom of Hunloke Road and in the car park at the rear of the library. PLEASE NOTE there is CCTV on the car park and offenders will be named and shamed and prosecuted. DO NOT leave household waste in the car park near the recycling bins. Put all of your recycling rubbish in the correct bins do not dump them in black bags and then leave them at the side of the bins. The CCTV is fully operational and offenders will be caught!
